BUILT SOLID FROM THE GROUND UP :
It’s under the floor, who cares? The answer is, we do, and we think you will too. Every MetroCabin starts with, and is built on, our META Floor System™. We know that a solid building is built upon a solid foundation. Here’s what it looks like…
PERIMETER TIMBERS : A 2x10 “board” would work; a 4x10 “timber” is better. Our META Floor System™ starts with select grade 4x10 solid timbers as our base structure. Treated to resist decay and insects, they form the backbone of our Cabin. Galvanized steel brackets and bolts connect the timbers.
THE FLOOR JOISTS : Weyerhaeuser developed the wooden I-joist 35 years ago. Engineered to provide strength and consistency, I-joists have become an integral part of high quality floor systems. The dimensional stability of I-joists helps them resist warping, twisting, and shrinking. I-joists are light-weight, uniform, have predictable strength and come in long lengths. The joists hang in plated steel brackets that are in turn screwed to the foundation timbers.
On top of the timber and I-joist matrix is a ¾” tongue and groove plywood floor. This plywood can be overlaid with your choice of finished flooring or it can be painted to become a finished floor in a simple or rustic cabin. Together these components make up our META Floor System™
COMPARISONS AND ADVANTAGES : Where Cabin Fever uses I-joists, other manufacturers will use “2 x” boards. In longer lengths, this wood has marginal strength and can split, bow and warp as it dries. I-joists will remain dimensionally stable. Additionally, I-joists use all of the wood from the tree thus making them less wasteful and more eco-friendly than their solid counterparts.
WE CARE ABOUT THESE DETAILS SO YOU DON’T HAVE TO.
We have developed a strong simple Foundation System for the MetroCabin. Most cabins can rest on our foundation pads and concrete risers.
FOUNDATION PAD : FOUNDATION PAD: Sometimes the dirty, unnoticed details can make a big difference. Take for instance, our Composite Foundation Pad; our cabins sit on them. They won’t slide, sink, break or sag. That means your Cabin will stay square and plumb, strong and secure.
Tested and approved by modular home manufacturers, these patented pads are lightweight, stronger than concrete, have a lifetime guarantee, are not affected by frost heave or thaw and are load tested to 30,000 lbs. They are manufactured from recycled materials.
IF THESE WALLS COULD TALK THEY WOULD SPEAK OF QUALITY MATERIALS, OR PERHAPS IN A MOMENT OF VANITY, THEIR SIMPLE GOOD LOOKS…
The MetroCabin is built with 13 pre-assembled wall sections. These wall sections are built in our factory under controlled conditions.
The insulation, electric and interior paneling are cut and prepared in our shop. These prepared materials allow a quick and precise building process. For strength, the walls are built with full-length, select-grade SPF studs, 16” on center.
A visual feature is the horizontal trim band that starts at the façade and carries around the structure. We use smooth siding above the trim line and vertically textured, rough-sawn siding below. This detail allows us to seamlessly join the panels for an integrated look. The subtle contrast of smooth and textured materials adds visual interest. The rough-sawn siding is an exterior-grade panel made from Southern Yellow Pine Heartwood, known for its durability and longevity and is backed by a 25-year limited warranty.
We chose beadboard paneling for 2 reasons. First, it looks great. Secondly, it’s just plain smart. The durability and practically of southern yellow pine resist dents, scratches and gouges for years of low maintenance use. This paneling is designed for use in high traffic and high moisture areas.
Look around the finest lumberyards and you will find the name “Gormans”. Since 1952 Gorman Bros. have produced only one product; The World's Finest 1 inch Spruce trim boards. When it came to choosing materials, it was a natural for Cabin Fever to team with Gorman’s to provide all the wood trim for the MetroCabin, both inside and out.
PGT VINYL WINDOWS AND DOORS : DO MORE THAN JUST BEAUTIFY YOUR NEW CABIN.
WINDOWS AND DOORS :
We are proud of our affiliation with PGT. They have a well-earned reputation as a manufacturer of top-quality windows. Located in South Florida, PGT understands that windows need to stand up to whatever Mother Nature can dish out. PGT windows are designed from top-to-bottom for strength and to effectively insulate your cabin from the elements. Vinyl window sashes and frames provide superior insulation. Standard double-pane insulated glass provides excellent U-value and reduces outside noise. Specially designed interlocking meeting rails prevent air and water infiltration. We could choose a cheap window. We also know that you could purchase a cabin from someone else. We like the choices we have made and are proud of our quality product.
THE WORLD'S BEST ROOF® DURO-LAST MEMBRANE
THE ROOF SYSTEM :
If there is one thing that sets the MetroCabin apart from the crowd, it’s the curving roof line. The fact is, its not just about good looks. With innovative materials, we have turned this feature into a visual treat and, an elegant work of engineering. We fabricate the roof beams from carbon steel square tubes. The steel is rolled, cut, welded, ground and painted. The rolling process and the curving shape strengthen the steel. Relatively lightweight, attractive and supremely strong, this unexpected material is a smart choice. From the cabin interior, the exposed beams contrast nicely with the pine roof deck above. This deck is a beefy 2 x 6 tongue and groove plank; actually, it’s 48 of them. This feature creates a beautiful board ceiling, an incredibly strong roof deck and provides substantial insulation as well.
The MetroCabin is topped with a custom-prefabricated, reinforced, thermoplastic membrane roof that is ideal for our low-sloped application. We have worked with Duro-Last to design a roof specifically for the MetroCabin. It’s extremely durable, the Duro-Last single-ply roofing system is also leak-proof, resistant to chemicals, fire and high winds, and virtually maintenance-free. Over a billion square feet of Duro-Last membrane have been installed on all types of buildings throughout North America. Precise attention to detail ensures an excellent fit and delivers worry-free, leak-proof protection.
BRAND NEW 2008 MetroCabin kitchen / bathroom option
Due to popular demand we’ve added a kitchen and bathroom option for MetroCabin. We've worked to bring a simple kitchen / bathroom option to market, and while we can ship heavy items with the MetroCabin prefab components, we’ve found that it's best to have a fridge / oven-range delivered locally so you don't incur unnecessary shipping costs on heavy items. Most importantly we provide the hook-ups for the refrigerator and oven – so it’s all simple to plug in at time of delivery. We work exclusively with IKEA and have collectively planned a kitchen that's not only simple, but also stylish and fits the available MetroCabin space perfectly. The larger 16ft. x 20ft. MetroCabin has a "livable" kitchen with larger oven-range and refrigerator, while the 12ft. x 16ft. MetroCabin has a "weekend" kitchen with 2 burner electric cooktop and undercounter refrigerator. The bathroom is the same regardless of MetroCabin size – with vanity, 32" shower cubicle and toilet.
